The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) have published new guidance for the month of October 2015. This month there is one clinical guideline that impacts upon primary care.
The Dementia, disability and frailty in later life guideline covers mid-life approaches to delay or prevent the onset of dementia, disability and frailty in later life. The guideline aims to increase the amount of time that people can be independent, healthy and active in later life.
The guideline includes recommendations on promoting a healthy lifestyle including:
- stopping smoking
- being more active
- reducing alcohol consumption
- improving diet
- losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight if necessary
Action: Clinicians should be aware of this month's new guidance and implement any necessary changes to practice.
