NPCi covers UKPDS 80 and 81
The National Prescribing Centre has written a blog article reviewing the results of UKPDS 80 and 81.
This article provides a thorough review of the data and concludes that, "this new UKPDS observational data should not change the view that we should be advising active management of all cardiovascular risk factors in people with type 2 diabetes on an individualised basis, rather than focussing disproportionately on tight control of blood glucose".
Action: Clinicians should continue to focus upon blood pressure control and cardiovascular risk management before aiming for tight control of blood glucose.
