Volmax Discontinued
The manufacturers of Volmax® (salbutamol controlled release tablets) have written to healthcare professionals to announce that this product will be discontinued at the end of October 2008.
The letter gives no reason for the product being discontinued but does indicate that several alternative products are available and that the decision to cease supply of this product should not affect asthma management.
Suitable alternatives include immediate release oral products, controlled release salbutamol in capsule form or adjustment of inhaled preparations. Patients should be monitored more closely immediately after any change to therapy to ensure that symptoms do not worsen and that new adverse events do not develop.
Action: Clinicians should be aware of this announcement and ensure that affected patients are transferred to a suitable alternative.
