Drug Safety Update - May 2009
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has published Drug Safety Update for May 2009 (PDF).
This issue contains a hot topic about pharmacy availability of orlistat and stop press reminders about the new advice on oral salicylate gels for those younger than age 16 years and precautionary advice following the reporting of liver damage in people using the food supplement fortodol. Drug safety advice covers the following areas:
- Aliskiren: risk of angioedema and renal dysfunction
- ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor antagonists: recommendations on use during breastfeeding
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: reminder on renal failure and impairment
