Antiviral for sale 'in advance'
Lloydspharmacy has started selling oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) through its Online Doctor service. It is aimed at people who "do not yet have swine flu but wish to prepare for when they might have it".
The service is operated as a private medical clinic at a cost of £48.50 with an additional postage charge of £4.95 according to an article in Pulse magazine.
A spokesman for Lloydspharmacy has said that this service meets a demand for private prescriptions for the antiviral medication and allows access through a reputable online source.
Action: Clinicians should be aware that antiviral medication is now available, in advance of diagnosis, through legitimate channels. Clinicians should consider and confirm this route of supply if suspected adverse drug reactions are identified.
