NICE Guidance - Diabetes guideline update
The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) have published an updated version of the guideline for diabetes. It was originally due for publication earlier this year but was delayed to allow further development time.
It covers the care and management of type 2 diabetes in adults (aged 18 and over). It focuses on patient education, dietary advice, managing cardiovascular risk, managing blood glucose levels, and identifying and managing long-term complications.
This updated guideline includes new recommendations on:
- individualised care
- managing blood glucose levels:
-
- HbA1c measurement and targets
- self-monitoring of blood glucose
- drug treatment
- antiplatelet therapy
- managing complications
Action: Clinicians should be aware of this new guidance and implement any necessary changes to practice.
